Katy Perry NOW

Whoops! Almost forgot to write a new post! Haha but I’m still here in time :P Although this will be short :(

Okay so this week I’ve gotten onto Katy Perry’s new record and I HAVEN’T EVEN OPENED IT!

I’ve just been busy with life and writing and reading. Yup I’ve been reading.

Oh yeah so back to Katy, WHO LOVED HER MV?!?!

Well I say her boyish look is still HAWT. I loved the vid concept but… I still don’t quite get the link between the song and the vid and all the marines and stuff. Maybe its just me…yes? Well yep I don’t quite get the concept but there is one thing I can tell from the vid…..IT IS EXPENSIVE TO MAKE AS HELL.

Why? First, the props used…PROPER ARMY VEHICLES. And second, the amount of extras used in the vid is MASSIVE with their cameo acts.

Maybe that is it for now, next week we’ll get in depth with Katy Perry and her career so far and what’s going on and what’s next for her. And also how she’ve risen to the top of the world against the odds of Lady Gaga and other pop icons.

Check out again next week for that post!!

Thanks for reading

Something Fresh? UNOVERPRODUCED is the word.

Yes, in the current trend of overproduced, light, club banging and dubstep, some people, like me, are bored of all these sounds. In my opinion, they all sound…the same over and over again with heavy drops and massive anthem inducing beats. And well surprisingly, some notable music these days are…unoverproduced and they sound FRESH!

So I’ve got myself a couple of new records in my library recently. Foster The People (after being impressed by their BigDayOut 2012 appearance), The Tings Tings new record “Sounds from Nowheresville (courtesy of Mr. Lambert’s reference), Cobra Starship and Miike Snow’s new record “Happy To You”. Nope I’m not gonna talk about every single one of them but I’m only gonna pay attention to The Tings Tings, Foster The People and a little bit of Cobra Starship. Oh and also a little bit of “We Are Young” by FUN feat. Janelle Monae.

What does all of them have in common? They’re all NOT overproduced. It annoys me nowadays that those music that are way too overproduced (i.e. LMFAO and all David Guetta) are all taking over the charts EVERYWHERE. Nope I’m not saying they’re all bad, some of them are good but isn’t it annoying when EVERYTHING sounds the same? Like…oh there goes the drop…and the beats and blah…. Yup everything sounds the same. So something like Foster The People and The Tings Tings are SOOOO REFRESHING!! They’re all unoverproduced, honest and raw. They’re just like a fresh breeze in the middle of a hot day, for me at least. They’re different and brave and something new…well not really new but who says old sounds can’t be reborn?

To be honest, I’m really into The Tings Tings record right now. Especially the track called “Guggenheim”.  DANG THAT TRACK IS GOOD!! It basically takes on the old 50’s/60’s rhythm and sounds but still incorporated with some really good edgy rock drums in the chorus part. Its sooooo sooooo refreshing and it is still stuck in my head. Such a good song for someone looking for a new sound. CHECK IT OUT HERE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKa3FQyehi0

Not just The Tings Tings and Foster The People, FUN and Janelle Monae’s song “We Are Young” is such a good example for an unoverproduced track. Its raw. Drums, keys, guitars and vocals. Really organic and refreshing!!! I’m so glad its taking on the charts. They do deserve it…well they do have quality.

Well these records are all I know of though. You may know something better that sounds good and unoverproduced? TELL ME ABOUT IT! J

Over and all I’d say unoverproduced music is the new thing for me and I’m loving every single bit of it. Raw, honest and just plain, nothing around the bush and just in your face with the music. ‘Cause over produced music are just too mainstream. I’m loving them!!!

Yup just found the right word to describe this all… INDIE!!!

To end this I wanna apologize to everyone for the pause in blogging cause life have been real real busy lately with lots of work to be done and lots of writing to be done. From now onwards, I promise it’ll be more regular every week, every Wednesday.

P.S. I loved Katy Perry’s song “Part Of Me” but it got kinda overplayed so….not as good as I thought anymore.

P.P.S. Check out my new cover of Adam Lambert’s “Better Than I Know Myself” here on Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/alexander-adin-enrico/better-than-i-know-myself or YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1bwqag4pjg&lc=t88saXYJsfVYfmja5Ni_bM2Ur5VcoQa3GCwjggpYk1M&feature=inbox

Live Show Review - GRAMMYS 2012

The GRAMMYs weekend started off with the news that shook the whole music industry and also, of course, the world. The news of the passing of the iconic Whitney Houston spread through the world like a wildfire, shaking everyone who admires the huge and amazing talent that she has.

Instant knee jerk reactions of condolence messages and such started flooding through twitter, facebook and any other social networking medias that you can think of. Everyone was just as shocked as everyone else. Of course then, The Grammys producers quickly responded to this news by rewriting the whole Grammys show by including tributes to the late Whitney Houston…or at least that’s what they said.

So then all eyes turned to the 54th Grammy Award Show the next day after Whitney’s passing, with everyone curious to know what they have in store for the tribute (although it had been confirmed that Jennifer Hudson will lead it) and also who will prevail that evening with the most Grammys.

Pre-show winners announcements were just as exciting as the show itself. Adele winning 2 Grammys and Foo Fighters won 3, AND THE NIGHT HADN’T EVEN STARTED YET.

Then there comes the moment everyone had waited for, The 54th Grammy Awards Show finally started with words from LL Cool J. RESPECT FOR THE MAN.

Yeah you can tell, I didn’t catch the red carpet so I had no idea at all of what they were wearing and such.

I won’t go down performance by performance in order so I’ll just go down from the top of my list.

And the top of my list, ADELE. After being absent for quite some time due to her throat surgery, SHE BLEW MY MIND. Her voice is…crazy, unreal and just outstanding. She don’t really need any backing music to be honest. She can just sing her ass of without any music and it’ll sound better than anything you’ve ever heard. Love Adele and all her music.

Second on my list goes off to Jennifer Hudson. With her tribute to Whitney Houston by singing “I Will Always Love You”, I must give props to her. If I have to pick any current singer that is able to do a rendition of Whitney and brings it like Whitney, I will pick Jennifer any day. She embodies her and their voice are sorta similar.

Now this goes against my personal preference but Taylor Swift’s performance was…interesting. Me, not being a fan of Taylor and highly disliking her, was actually quite interested with her performance. It was actually unique but also quite weird. Some of her moves with the guitar or banjo makes me giggle. She’s tall and very close to look like a stick figure and with her doing some “head-down lean-down to the guitar” moves, she made me giggle. But one thing that captured me was the costume which was anything but glamorous. She looked like she just got out of bed and asked to do a performance immediately. Unique and interesting.

Oh almost forgot to mention how cool Nicki Minaj’s set was too! Fire combined with a mix of theatricality and heavily backed singing did end up pretty good too. Well at least most people were just captivated by the choreographies and effect but not the actual singing.

Coldplay…I don’t quite know what to say about their set. It was pretty cool and psychedelic with all the colourful stick lights that lit up the whole Staples Center but I’m not really sure the whole performance was one that everyone would remember…

KATY!!!! Have I mentioned how much I love Katy Perry? Yes her live vocal isn’t really good but her performances always captivates me! By bringing her latest single and also the lead single of her next album, “Part of Me”, Katy really brought it. Loving the new hair and she’s just as gorgeous as ever.

And lets all don’t forget about Bruno Mars. It was quite a fun performance and promotes more of his showmanship than his vocals…which actually sells more nowadays than being an amazing vocalist. It was fun and the stage set for his performance was one to remember, bringing a throwback 50s theatre set.

Lets see… Oh… I was quite disappointed to be honest by Alicia Keys’ tribute for the late Etta James. Wasn’t a good performance at all. Very disappointing to be frank.

Rihanna…well she’s Rihanna. She brought it and she really did. Was quite surprised of her vocals which from what I can recall was not that good. Props to RiRi!

Oh and this one I must really slam. Chris Brown. I actually managed to alter his song lyrics during his performance…

“Everywhere, everywhere.. Everywhere I go… I lipsync, I lipsync… And beat up all the girls…”

Yeah.. Sounds good right Chris? You can change it by all means I won’t ask for any royalty.

What was that by Chris Brown?! A full lipsync performance is not what I call a live music performance and therefore I have to slam his performance to the trash can. Although despite of that I must agree he has got some moves. Sick moves!! But vocals? errr…..

And well that is it for the performance reviews and if I miss out any please tell me so.

And last but not least though, the winners for the Grammys were just as right as it could be and I could not imagine any more deserving winner for the Album of The Year, Record of The Year and Song of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance categories other than…Adele. SO proud of Adele and she’s just one of the greatest vocalists of all time. She deserves them SO MUCH!! And she making a clean sweep of winning 6 out of 6 nominations wasn’t a surprise at all. And congrats to The Foos for winning 4 Grammys! This time all the winners fully deserved their respective awards.

Overall I really loved the whole Grammys 2012 show! Exciting, fun and also not to forget they still kept its whole purpose of giving this show as a tribute to Whitney Houston. Amazing stuff from the producers this year, R.I.P Whitney Houston and I’m looking forward for the 55th Grammy Awards Show in 2013.

Adam, BTIKM and myself

Sorry peeps for being MIA for quite some time… Apparently during my “holidays” I get even busier… Life ain’t easy guys..

Anyways today’s post will be a little more…personal shall we say it…

Of how actually Adam have quite changed my life as a whole. Changed me as a person and also how he changed my personal life.

Oh and also how much I can relate the song Better Than I Know Myself (BTIKM) to my own personal life.

…..I’ll try not to give out as much identity details as possible…..

Okay so… let me tell you a little story of how I began loving Adam. It all started one night in Singapore, WHEN MY MUM CRIES OUT FOR A DUDE ON TV. Yeah I didn’t like to watch talent shows and still don’t. So then me, as a curious little bastard I’ve always been, peeked out at who she was crying out for and…BAM….it was the one and only…ADAM LAMBERT.

He totally caught my attention then. Always supported him on Idol and blah and blah and blah and then the finals and BOOM and bllaaaaaaaaahhhhh….

Then at that time, I didn’t know much of AI and all the stuff yet so I lost track of Adam until……..NOT THE AMA……but when the news broke out that he was coming to Singapore.

I’ve always loved him but this fiery passion had only started when he came down to Singapore and then I bought in total 9 COPIES OF FYE to get myself those showcase tickets (I WAS DESPERATE) and in the end I got……*drumrollssss* 2 TICKETS! :D

So yeah I saw him at the showcase and I MELTED. I’ve always loved him sooooo much since then and then yeah….all the AWESOMENESS begins.

So here we go with the life changing part… The part that changed my life the most was that….Adam have brought me to meet so many people out there and got me out of my shell!! I swear to God before Adam, I was this little numpty that was VERY timid and well…too self conscious sometimes and most of the time…was a total loser.

Adam totally brought me out of my self-centered shell and made me into this FIRE BREATHING BEAST!!!

Nah LOL I can’t breathe fire. Well, he turned me into this….person who I am now. A guy that makes sure he dress up nicely all the time, a guy that have an improved sense of fashion or sometimes too forward, a loud mouth that rambles a lot and a much more cheerful person than I was 2-3 years ago!

That’s the first and second… Adam gave me something really special and really dear to my heart. I fell in love.

Yup… Well you also may attribute it to PUBERTY but hey… I was already past my puberty age… XD

Yeah, Adam gave me LOVE. Something I could never find for years or even thought of, due to some past experiences, but Adam kinda pulled me out of this pit of love blindness and out back to the real world again. But not just that… if it wasn’t for him…. I wouldn’t have found THE LOVE OF MY LIFE <3

And besides the love of my life, Adam have helped to find and meet amazing and crazy people that I adore, love and really care about. Like…some of the people that I know via Adam are the ones that I would cut my limbs for. The ones that I will die for. The ones that I will donor my organs to. Wait…what?

But pretty much, the love of my life is one of the most important thing I have right now and…yeah… Heh :) <3

Okay so BTIKM is surely one of my favourite songs ever and the music video is…A MASTERPIECE.

Of how in one’s life, one must find a balance between the dark side and also the light side. Of how we need to keep in touch with both and one can’t take control or destroy the other. And also how both can’t live without each other.

And I totally feel that. With my loved one and also the other loved ones I can totally feel it. Like yeah, I’m an ass sometimes and I’m nice sometimes…. but I need you…

But although at times, I see it by the lyric….

“Cause if I wanted to go I would’ve gone by now but, but I need you near me to keep my mind off the edge…”

For me its like, no matter what I say, I would never leave you cause I need you in my life. If I wanted to go I would’ve gone by now but…I’m still here cause I need you.

I don’t know but that’s how I interpret BTIKM to my personal level. And it applies to everyone I love and especially to the one I love most.

So yeah… I know this is kinda cheesy and corny and boring and stuff but I had the feeling to let it out and let it be known to the world.

Thanks for reading guys. You’ve just began to know my better than I know myself.

Love,

Alex
